Lights, camera, texture!

Jamie Young Lighting Fall 09

We have one word for you – texture. Fresh and vibrant with a touch of modern has always been the basis for Jamie Young designs, but the latest additions to this line introduce glorious elements of texture at every turn. Some are just simple glowing suggestions such as the Mother of Pearl Udipur Pendant or the Cubed Faux Horn Base, with their glossy surfaces embracing the texture of these natural elements. And then you have the Jute Urn Rope and Spiral Sea Glass Base which shout their raw and inviting texture from the roof tops. And let’s not forget those gorgeous shades. Presented in unconventional ways with the Classic Drum Cork and the (oh my!) Hand Painted Platinum Drum, these stylish shades get kicked up a notch. Touchable (and functional) works of art for your very own home, anyone?

Butter is better

Maura Daniel LightingSunshiney color has made a comeback in a big way recently, and Maura Daniel has stood up and taken notice. This line of gorgeous lighting has charmed our homes for years now with their vintage inspired designs and playful use of color. Adding to their already unique pallet is Butter – a warm melt-in-your-mouth yellow that would look as brilliant in a kitchen as it would in a bedroom. Easy on the eyes, this color can brighten up any room and yet still stay subtle enough to match almost any décor. Butter – the new neutral! And if you find yourself continually scouring your walls for space to put up a sconce, consider the Lulu. Offered in both a single and a double, this sconce is another charming addition. With the right amount of flowers and crystals, and the right amount of colored metal – the Lulu is both elegant enough for your formal dinner party and lighthearted enough to keep a smile on your face. Let this lighting shine in your home, and you may just find yourself shining back.

A Fresh Take On Damask

a fresh take on damask

We’ve all heard the word, and most of us know what it looks like, but what exactly IS damask? And why do we love it so? Damasks originated in France during the period of Louis XVI (which design buffs know was not a time known for minimalism and restraint). The patterns feature symmetrical designs, often with flowers or leaves and were originally woven from rich, fabulous silks. Sounds super luxe, right? And they were – variations of the original centuries old patterns are still used today. But we love a good twist, and the way damasks are interpreted today is nothing short of inspired. Pine Cone Hill prints their damask patterns on cotton in a wide range of colors sure to please from soft, subtle tints to bold chocolate (peony is one of our favorites, shown above). And if you love chocolate, check out our sand blasted damask table lamp. Got a yen for bold graphics? Decoupaged damask prints brighten up traditional vases, pitchers and desk accessories in a way that is sure to be noticed. A tufted loveseat covered in printed cotton damask combines an air of historical reference with a casual elegance by House Inc. And while it’s not really a damask pattern, we think King Louis XVI would have appreciated the elegant pattern silk screened onto the modern loft coffee table.

Oh My – But You Are A Pretty Piece Of Furniture

European Classics

And such character too! Is this some treasured antique? A find from recent European travels? For everyone who craves home furnishings inspired by the classics (with a little twist), we are thrilled to introduce our new European Classics collection of furniture, lamps and accessories. The styling? We like to think of it as classic with a few quirks thrown in. You’ll find traditional Swedish, French and Italian design details, but the results are anything but tired and boring. The finishes are richly layered and textured, aged and antiqued in a stunning selection of colors and effects, often accented with painted details. Most pieces are hand built from mahogany, and because this is an eco-sensitive modern line, the artisan is committed to a “1 for 1″ replanting program that replaces every tree used to produce each product. How cool and green is that? What we really love is how seamlessly any of these items works with a wide range of decorating styles, from quiet and sophisticated to eclectically colorful. Check out all the European Classics offerings and get inspired!

Retro Romance From Maura Daniel

Maura Daniel lighting

The right lighting can make any decor come alive, and we are loving the latest offerings from Maura Daniel. The Chloe Double Sconce brings some ecclecticism to the mix by pairing turquoise cut crystals with gold. A little funky, a little sweet, the Chloe sconce toes the line between modern cool for the Domino-design loving crowd and retro romantic. And to take your little girl from the nursery through to her teen bedroom, we adore the Chloe sphere drop light and the way it perfectly blends a contemporary shape with sparkling, faceted flowers. See both these plus all the latest additions from Maura Daniel.
