A Fresh Take On Damask

a fresh take on damask

We’ve all heard the word, and most of us know what it looks like, but what exactly IS damask? And why do we love it so? Damasks originated in France during the period of Louis XVI (which design buffs know was not a time known for minimalism and restraint). The patterns feature symmetrical designs, often with flowers or leaves and were originally woven from rich, fabulous silks. Sounds super luxe, right? And they were – variations of the original centuries old patterns are still used today. But we love a good twist, and the way damasks are interpreted today is nothing short of inspired. Pine Cone Hill prints their damask patterns on cotton in a wide range of colors sure to please from soft, subtle tints to bold chocolate (peony is one of our favorites, shown above). And if you love chocolate, check out our sand blasted damask table lamp. Got a yen for bold graphics? Decoupaged damask prints brighten up traditional vases, pitchers and desk accessories in a way that is sure to be noticed. A tufted loveseat covered in printed cotton damask combines an air of historical reference with a casual elegance by House Inc. And while it’s not really a damask pattern, we think King Louis XVI would have appreciated the elegant pattern silk screened onto the modern loft coffee table.

Oh My – But You Are A Pretty Piece Of Furniture

European Classics

And such character too! Is this some treasured antique? A find from recent European travels? For everyone who craves home furnishings inspired by the classics (with a little twist), we are thrilled to introduce our new European Classics collection of furniture, lamps and accessories. The styling? We like to think of it as classic with a few quirks thrown in. You’ll find traditional Swedish, French and Italian design details, but the results are anything but tired and boring. The finishes are richly layered and textured, aged and antiqued in a stunning selection of colors and effects, often accented with painted details. Most pieces are hand built from mahogany, and because this is an eco-sensitive modern line, the artisan is committed to a “1 for 1″ replanting program that replaces every tree used to produce each product. How cool and green is that? What we really love is how seamlessly any of these items works with a wide range of decorating styles, from quiet and sophisticated to eclectically colorful. Check out all the European Classics offerings and get inspired!

Fit for a Queen – The Natural Linen Corbielle Bed

Looking to transform a drab bedroom into a sophisticated romantic haven?  The search is over!  Introducing one of our newest furniture additions, the Natural Linen Corbielle Queen Bed. Inspired by the classic lines of Louis XV, this European antique reproduction piece has curves in all the right places. The headboard and footboard are upholstered and tufted in a subdued natural color linen fabric that lends a simple, casual twist while finely crafted florette carvings and fluted details add just the right amount of vintage inspiration.  Juxtapose the elegant style of Louis XV with modern bedding in either fresh, crisp whites or silky damasks.  For a glam Hollywood look, an antiqued mirrored chest placed bedside brings out the screen goddess within us all.  Oh how our minds wander with all the possibilities…  You’ll sleep like a queen in your own home with this exclusive bed available in three hand applied worn finishes (shown here in our favorite finish, Old Cream).  Love the look?  Check out the entire Antique Eloquence furniture collection.

Chandler Chair – A Classic Pedigree With An Updated Twist

Chandler Chair
A little historical referencing plus a modern update equals one very captivating chair. The Chandler Chair has the graceful lines of a Bergère chair with curved cabriole legs, carved wood detailing and a gently arched back. But it is anything but stuffy and old world. Upholstered in a mix of creamy linen and textured burlap, it’s like a great antiquing day find that your craftiest, most clever design buff friend gave a makeover to. The burlap makes it not too precious and perfect, while small nailhead trim and a rustic wood finish give it just the right touch of updated sass. We love the way this piece can slip seamlessly into almost any décor as well. Paired with the subdued colors and elegance of aubusson pillows and rugs, it takes on a traditional look, while refined silk pillow accents and clean lined, contemporary furniture achieves an air of modern luxe. Or go wild pairing this chair with your favorite funky finds for an eclectic look that defies categorization. Whatever your design style, the Chandler Chair adds a touch of European class with a modern twist to your decor.
