Artisan Spotlight – A Gem of Summer

As an inspired artisan, Rachel of Adeline a Mare shares a few words with us regarding the visions and influences of her work.

“I have always from a very young age had an eye for all things beautiful and feminine. My grandmother taught me how to sew and crochet as a child, in school I was always drawn to art and photography. I guess jewelry was just a natural progression, and came somewhat easy for me.

Inspiring Rachel’s creative process:

I love to sit at my worktable with all of my gemstones spread out in front of me, and I just play with different color combinations and textures….faceted stones with smooth, and golden wire wrapped coils, with pops of silver. Living in Hawaii I am always surrounded with vibrant colors, as well as a very unique hippie/chic/European vibe here on the north shore of Maui. My favorite color to work with, of course, is that beautiful aqua blue of the ocean, ahh…”

Enjoy Rachel’s quality collection and be the gem of your summer gathering all year round.

Happy Birthday to everyone!

On the heels of America’s birthday you may find yourself swamped with birthday invites or planning your own party of another kind – a children’s birthday party! Kids make things more festive and summer is a great time to have fun with color regardless of theme. Here are a few fun ways to make your bash an original.

Arguably THE stand-out must-have item is a retro inspired birthday party hat with a new twist. Feathers, sparkles and embroidered personalization make your birthday star shine like no other.

Decorating details such as chic disposable patterned placemats can liven up a table with minimal effort and minimal cost.

Cake Stands with changeable woven ribbon and a festive flatware caddy help you organize with style. You’ll find yourself pulling these out for many occasions to come – an entertaining staple.

And while you’re acting as “hostess extraordinaire”, a flirty apron is a must… the kids don’t have to have all the fun. And a colorful ruffled apron can dress up comfy running shoes and yoga pants you might be tempted to wear while dashing about.

For the littlest birthday stars, consider a high chair cover to dress up your gear for the occasion. Easily washable and usable again and again, even as a shopping cart cover.

And how could anyone forget the beloved birthday outfit ensemble? Two novel best-sellers being a pettiskirt and tank combo, and these darling monogrammed moccasins. Both eye catching and special, yet comfortable enough to keep your little star aglow for hours.

After all, a happy birthday makes a happy Mommy!

Baby JaR, oh Baby JaR…how you have captured our hearts!

baby-jar3a
This line just keeps getting better and better with each clever new pattern and color pallet that gets introduced. A fresh L.A. based design duo of two sisters, Jessica and Rachel (hence the capital R in Baby JaR), who wanted to create fun and functional products are who we have to thank for these lively burp cloths, bibs, and blankets. And although their patterns are stand out, it’s the details that really make the difference with each Baby JaR product. Delight in the unique trim and soft to the touch fabrics. And for a product that can be a bit of a challenge to find, Baby JaR’s receiving blankets are some of the most creative and adorable around. Even if bold patterns are normally not your thing, Baby JaR has a smart way of softening the look with complimentary soft solid colors that not only work to tone down the look but allow you to coordinate with so much more. Baby JaR – charming Mom’s across the country and back again!

Journeys of a lifetime; journeys to be shared

australia31There seems to be nothing more fitting as we enjoy the month of June than to share an amazing beach-ridden experience in the Gold Coast of Australia. Original and notable design is always worth sharing, and with pleasure I bring you an Aussie gem. In the midst of our travels we stumbled upon a darling café along the Harbor for breakfast, or “brekkie” as it is affectionately called in Australia. Not only was the brekkie poignantly noteworthy, but so was the café décor.

Brumbles is full of charm and inexpensive ideas to create your own beach inspired haven. In keeping with the roots of this converted cottage the personal touches are endless – tea lights, fresh flowers, French music, and even a reading room for guests that wish to linger. Outdoor and indoor tables were covered with random cut mosaic tiles with simple Bumble Bees inlayed for their branding. Each room had its own sense of personality, one striking memory being a wall with hand drawn geometric squares reminiscent of picture frames, and simple snapshots of frequent guests appliquéd like wallpaper. Imagine my surprise and delight when I noticed some all too familiar decorative white wall plates hanging in a private back room… they enchanted the space. Inexpensive crisp white paper mache’ lights hung from the ceiling and streamlined Danish style furniture filled the room. And amongst all these creative decorating elements – let us not forget that shells were in abundance!

If you are ever in the breathtaking Gold Coast of Australia, be sure to make your way over to Brumbles for an enhanced coastal experience. Relaxing ambiance, great service, fresh and healthy food, and genuine design vibe that will warm your soul… music to any traveler’s ears.

A Fresh Take On Damask

a fresh take on damask

We’ve all heard the word, and most of us know what it looks like, but what exactly IS damask? And why do we love it so? Damasks originated in France during the period of Louis XVI (which design buffs know was not a time known for minimalism and restraint). The patterns feature symmetrical designs, often with flowers or leaves and were originally woven from rich, fabulous silks. Sounds super luxe, right? And they were – variations of the original centuries old patterns are still used today. But we love a good twist, and the way damasks are interpreted today is nothing short of inspired. Pine Cone Hill prints their damask patterns on cotton in a wide range of colors sure to please from soft, subtle tints to bold chocolate (peony is one of our favorites, shown above). And if you love chocolate, check out our sand blasted damask table lamp. Got a yen for bold graphics? Decoupaged damask prints brighten up traditional vases, pitchers and desk accessories in a way that is sure to be noticed. A tufted loveseat covered in printed cotton damask combines an air of historical reference with a casual elegance by House Inc. And while it’s not really a damask pattern, we think King Louis XVI would have appreciated the elegant pattern silk screened onto the modern loft coffee table.

Oh My – But You Are A Pretty Piece Of Furniture

European Classics

And such character too! Is this some treasured antique? A find from recent European travels? For everyone who craves home furnishings inspired by the classics (with a little twist), we are thrilled to introduce our new European Classics collection of furniture, lamps and accessories. The styling? We like to think of it as classic with a few quirks thrown in. You’ll find traditional Swedish, French and Italian design details, but the results are anything but tired and boring. The finishes are richly layered and textured, aged and antiqued in a stunning selection of colors and effects, often accented with painted details. Most pieces are hand built from mahogany, and because this is an eco-sensitive modern line, the artisan is committed to a “1 for 1″ replanting program that replaces every tree used to produce each product. How cool and green is that? What we really love is how seamlessly any of these items works with a wide range of decorating styles, from quiet and sophisticated to eclectically colorful. Check out all the European Classics offerings and get inspired!
